 | Accreditations |
Ontesol's courses have been
evaluated and accredited by two separate, independent accrediting bodies: the
UK-based Accreditation Council for TESOL Distance Education Courses (ACTDEC)
and TESL Canada. These organizations have scrutinized Ontesol’s programs and
given their official recognition of their veracity as teacher training
programs. As a result, completion of Ontesol’s courses confers upon students an
additional recognized status. In addition to receiving certification from
Ontesol for course completion, students may apply for the appropriate
certification from ACTDEC and may be eligible for TESL Canada certification
(TESL Canada is equivalent to CELTA and
Trinity CertTESOL worldwide).
There are three main components that are relevant in relation to understanding the accreditations that will be possible for successful students: the 100-hour TESOL Certificate (100 hours), the 250-hour TESOL Diploma (250 hours), and the 20-hour Practicum (observation and on-site teaching practice). See course details for information on what these components entail.

Upon successful completion of the 100-hour TESOL program, you will receive a 100-hour TESOL Certificate awarded by Ontesol. You will also receive an ACTDEC Level 1 Certificate under the seal of the Council when you register at actdec.org.uk

Upon successful completion of the 250-hour TESOL program, you will receive a 250-hour TESOL Diploma awarded by Ontesol. You will also receive an ACTDEC UK Level 3 Certificate under the seal of the Council when you register at actdec.org.uk

Ontesol has been approved by TESL Canada as an accredited TESOL provider for six years. Ontesol has recently upgraded its course content and as a result, the nature of the TESL Canada recognition has changed. The previous course (200 hours) qualified students for TESL Canada’s Professional Certificate Standard 1 . In June 2007, this course was upgraded to 250 hours of instruction, becoming eligible for TESL Canada Professional Standard 2.
Those
who wish to apply to TESL Canada certification must successfully complete our
250-hour TESOL program and the 20-hour practicum and meet the following
requirements:
- Minimum age: 21
- A completed university degree from Canada or its
equivalency *(1)
- Candidates must have an awareness of spoken language
and competence in English, both written and spoken that enables them to
follow the course.
- Non-native speakers who have not completed a university
degree in an English speaking country must have a valid English
Proficiency Score such as TOEFL score of 550 (213 with computer -based
exam; 80 with Internet –based exam), UCLES Certificate in Advanced English
or IELTS minimum band 6.5 when applying for TESL Canada Certification
*(1)
Students without a university degree can still enroll in the 250-hour program
and receive a 250-hour TESOL Diploma awarded by Ontesol upon successful
completion of the program, but they are informed that TESL Canada Professional
Certificate Standard 2 requires an undergraduate degree from Canada or its
equivalency.
If
you are considering taking the 250-hour TESOL program, it is important for you
to know what TESL Canada national professional certification standards are.
