- Non-native English teachers who have experience teaching English to kids and want to obtain a certificate from a Canadian TESOL course provider.
Course Entry Requirements:
For the TEYL Certificate program a candidate needs to have a good general education up to the generally accepted level for university entrance. Applicants without formal qualifications who have the ability to communicate clearly in English will also be considered.
It is recommended that candidates have either taken a TESOL course or have some kind of experience teaching children. The minimum age limit is 20 years old.
Aims of the Course:
For the TEYL Certificate program the overall aim is to develop skills and confidence in working with young learners, familiarize with the approach that best suit children’s learning styles as well as adding an invaluable bonus to your CV or résumé and network with other TESOL graduates.
General Objectives:
The general objectives of the course require each student to be able to:

Demonstrate a basic understanding of the different approaches to teaching English to young learners

Demonstrate a basic understanding of lesson planning using different approaches and techniques
Requirements:
Candidates are required to successfully complete all the assignments contained in the 13 modules of the online TEYL Certificate program (See syllabus content).

This is a 60-hour online course which must be completed in a period of 8 weeks. The material is contained in a pdf document called TEYL in Action!, which you can certainly print out to have all of it at hand for reading assignments and making your own portfolio.
Online Tutor
You will be assigned an experienced tutor for this course. The communication between you and your tutor will be done via email. Administration will contact you with your tutor details so that you can start communicating with him/her as soon as possible.
The course focuses on approaches, methods and techniques involved in teaching young learners. We encourage you to reflect on the material and participate actively with questions, suggestions and ideas.
Certificate
After successful completion of all assignments, you will receive a TEYL Certificate awarded by Ontesol. You will also receive a letter of recommendation detailing the course content and your individual performance in all course aspects.
Duration: This course takes a minimum of 60 hours to complete within a period of 8 weeks.
Upgrading
You can upgrade to the Certificate in the Theory and Methodology of TESOL in a later stage if you would like to obtain ACTDEC Level 3 Certificate or TESL Canada Professional Certification Standard 2. Please check course entry requirements before applying for this course.
